Welcome to the Cheese Hamlet
The Cheese Hamlet is a family run independent business that started trading in Chorlton in 1960, evolving from bakery to cheese and fine foods in 1972 from our new premises in Didsbury.
Over the years we have achieved many awards for our traditional retailing and commitment to the fine food sector. We have been winners of the Speciality Cheese Retailer of the Year for 3 consecutive years as well as Delicatessen of the Year on more than one occasion, to add to our collection numerous other awards for traditional high street retailing.
We travel the world judging cheese competitions as well as sourcing some of the finest cheeses available to us in the UK. We are extremely passionate that each piece of cheese that leaves our shop in Didsbury either through a personal visit or delivered via mail order is in peak condition for your enjoyment.
We have spent the past 45 years sourcing some of the best cheeses available from both the UK as well as the rest of the world. Regularly attending and judging at some of the largest cheese competitions both and home and abroad enables us to discover first-hand anything new and exciting in the cheese world.
We are members of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association who help and support independent cheesemakers throughout the UK. We are also one of the founding members of the Guild of Fine Foods, and as such support some of the UK’s smallest food producers, who also share our passion for and dedication for bringing fine foods to market.
While our store is cheese heavy with a range of between 180 – 200 varieties of cheese, we also have an extensive range of quality deli products. Olives and homemade bakery products complement the pork pies we source from a local award-winning bakery, a range of home cooked meats as well as Italian and Spanish charcuterie. Our bread is also sourced from a well-established, local, award-winning bakery.
Alongside our fresh counters we have our range of ambient products and fine wines & ports. Our range consists of around 1500 products, many of which have been recognised at the Great Taste Awards for their excellence. The choice of delicious products is vast and encompassing with products that include, olive oils, sauces, chutneys, pickles, pastas, biscuits, preserves, handmade chocolates, honeys, teas, coffees, wines, port and gins, to name but a few.
Cheese Hamlet Hampers…
All hampers are beautifully presented in sophisticated black and gold gift boxes inside insulated, protective outer packaging and delivered by tracked overnight couriers to ensure they reach their destination in perfect condition.
Cheese Wedding CAkes…
With over 35 years’ experience in selecting and grading cheese, we are confident that we can find the perfect combination of cheeses to match your taste buds and to be as special as your big day. We produced our first wedding cake for a couple back in the late 1990s and they have continued to be popular ever since.
All our cakes are suitable for weddings, corporate events, christenings, birthday parties and many other celebrations and can be dressed up or down, matched to colour schemes or sourced from specific countries or regions if required.
Dealing with The Cheese Hamlet for our wedding cake was a delicious delight from start to finish. It began with a quick email and an invitation to a “cheese consultation” at the shop in Didsbury, where we sampled all sorts of different flavours. John was full of knowledge and fascinating stories about all the cheesemakers and was able to recommend the perfect mix for our big day.
Coffees & Teas…
We have a very long-standing relationship with our coffee supplier who was originally based in Manchester City Centre before expansion forced them to move their operation to the Lake District. Their coffee sourcing, grading and roasting skills are second to none, resulting in a very strong and loyal following of their coffees. The coffees are all supplied as beans but will be ground freshly to your personal requirements. We also stock the Didsbury based Manchester Worker Bee teas and coffees, with a donation being paid to the Lord Mayor’s Charity with every purchase.
